"If you attempt to talk with a dying man about sports or business, he is no longer interested. He now sees other things as more important. People who are dying recognize what we often forget, that we are standing on the brink of another world." William Law
Recently, Bob Edwards on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, interviewed a reporter somewhere in Iraq with the American military. The reporter said, "It's night here and I'm in the chaplain's tent. It's the only place where I can turn on my flashlight. We're not allowed to have a light of any kind outside because the snipers will see it and fire on us."
At the end of the interview, Edwards asked, "Is the chaplain there with you? Put him on." The two men exchanged greetings, then Bob Edwards gave this chaplain an open mike to share the gospel with the world. He said, "Chaplain, you're talking to men and women about to go into battle. Some of them may be killed. What do you tell them?" There was a slight pause, then the chaplain said, "I tell them to trust their weapons. And trust their buddies." Long pause. Edwards waited patiently for him to get to the faith part, but that was it. He was through. In an attempt to salvage this disastrous exchange, Edwards asked, "Chaplain, what is your religious faith?" The man said, "I'm a Christian. A nondenominational Christian." And the interview was over.
Dear friend, Jesus Christ did not die on the Cross so that we could "trust our weapons and our buddies." If that is all that He died for, then He died in vain. And worse, we are still in our sins, guilty and condemned before a holy God.
Easter is a celebration that death has been conquered. The price of sin was death; physical, spiritual and eternal. When Jesus Christ, the God-Man, died on that old rugged Cross, He paid the price for all of our sins. He literally died our death and took our Hell upon Himself. But on the third day when He rose again and walked out of that tomb, He demonstrated that a holy God was satisfied with His payment for our sins. Jesus died so that we might we live. The very fact that He arose from the grave is proof that we too can live for all eternity!
God gave His only Son so that you and I might be forgiven and live for all eternity. Dear friend, have you accepted God’s gift? Have you committed your life to Christ? Have you accepted Him as your personal Lord and Savior? If not, please make this the best Easter ever, move from the realm of eternal death to eternal life. Commit your life to Christ today and know what it is to be forgiven and spiritually alive.
Too many today are "trusting their weapons" or "their buddies." To trust in anything or anyone else, even yourself, for eternal life is to trust in something faulty that will not get you into heaven. Jesus Christ is THE only way.
Do you want to live forever, then come to the Savior . . . and please come today! "As in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22). |
