Don’t Forbid Them
Said a precious little laddie to his Father one bright day
"May I give myself to Jesus? Let Him wash my sins away?"
"Oh my son, but you’re too little wait until you older grow,
For bigger folk ‘tis true do need Him but little ones are safe,
you know."
Said the Father to the laddie as a storm was coming on,
"Are the sheep all safely sheltered safe within the fold, my son?"
"Ah—the big ones are, my Father but the lambs, I let them go
For I didn’t think it mattered, little ones are safe, you know."
Oh my brother, oh, my sister; have you too made that mistake?
Little hearts that now are yielded may be hardened then too late.
Ere the evil days come nigh them "Let the children come to Me
And forbid them not," said Jesus "Of such shall my Kingdom be."

VBS for a Bible-believing church is a wonderful opportunity yet a tremendous task. Anyone who has been around children for any length of time knows that if you have some fifty or more children together, you’ve got your hands full. And sadly, as our culture continues to deteriorate and devolve, children are not valued. They are looked upon as a bother and a hassle.
That was not Jesus’ attitude. Our Lord valued children and the Bible has a lot to say about them. There are over 435 different references in the Bible about children. Statistics also reveal that most believers committed their lives to Christ while they were still children. Children are so open, so trusting and so impressionable. Their hearts are not contaminated with adult skepticism and sophistication.
When I was a child, God began to work in my heart. I know that is true of many of you as well. During this coming week let’s be praying together that God will work in children’s hearts, that they might come to Christ and know that wonderful assurance of sins forgiven and their eternal destiny settled. That’s what Grace Church is all about – reaching the lost – making more disciples of Jesus Christ.
And we do not want to stop with the children, that’s just the start. We want to reach their entire family. That’s why the closing session on Friday night is so important. We want those Dads and Moms to come and hear what their children have been hearing all week – that God loved them enough to send His Son to the Cross to die for all of our sins.
Have you invited some children to our VBS yet? Let me suggest a goal that each family from Grace try to bring at least three new children to VBS.
Now maybe you’re saying, "But who would I invite?" Elmer Towns suggests the F.R.A.N. PRINCIPLE (friends, relatives, associates and neighbors).
Be sure that you also offer to pick up the children and bring them home. This might be the essential part to their coming. Yet assure the parents that they too are welcome to join their children until they feel comfortable.
This week is a tremendous opportunity to reach OUR world for Christ! Let’s be praying that God would give us a rich harvest of souls for His glory! |
